We’re encouraging Black Country businesses to put themselves forward for a King’s Award for Enterprise. Attend a free masterclass at Aston Business School on Thursday 25 May to help you submit a winning entry.
As we reported recently, the King’s Awards for Enterprise are highly prestigious, bringing a host of benefits to winners.
The 2024 application window opened on Saturday 6 May. This is for entries in the categories of:
- International trade
- Sustainable development
- Promoting opportunity through social mobility.
To be eligible, your organisation must be:
- Based in the UK
- Have a good compliance record with HMRC
- Be a self-contained enterprise under its own management
- Have at least two full-time employees (or part-time equivalents)
- Demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility.
Each award category also has additional criteria.
Your SME can be a business or a non-profit. Your business doesn’t necessarily need to be showing a profit to be successful in the awards. So don’t be put off if you’re currently investing in research and development.

The masterclass will take place on Thursday 25 May at Aston Business School in Birmingham. It will run from 2pm to 4.30pm. There will be presentations as well as time for networking. Previous winners will be there to talk about their successful applications and the benefits they’ve gained from winning a King’s Award.
The event is being hosted by CREME – the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship – which is based at Aston University. It will be delivered by the West Midlands Lieutenancy – the King’s representatives in our region.
