Businesses Getting Connected With GDPR
31st January 2018Business networkers were given a great insight into the new GDPR at Sandwell College’s latest Get Connected event.
Digital marketing specialist Amy Staniszewski was guest speaker at the 8th in the series of networking breakfasts in collaboration with Sandwell Business Solutions Centre.
Amy is head of marketing at Microsoft Gold Partner and security specialist ACUTEC, where she is now the main point of call for GDPR discussions.
The new General Data Protection Regulation comes into force on Friday 25 May and will affect the data businesses hold, where they hold it and why.
Amy said: “This is a massive change in the way we deal with information. What is in place now doesn’t work so this is a good thing.
“If you choose to hold personal data you need to be responsible for it. It’s all about streamlining.â€
Business owners reacted positively to the session.
Helen Gordon, of Woodshires, said: “This is a fantastic event! It’s very informative with great keynote speakers on very interesting and need-to-know topics.â€
Neil Herman, of Neil Herman Associates, said: “It was really interesting. I think it’s difficult to do an in-depth session on this topic but this was a common sense approach with practical advice.â€
Jaspreet Thiara, of SEM Consultants, said: “It was really insightful and it covered points you wouldn’t necessarily think of. It’s good to see it from a business perspective.â€
The next Get Connected in Sandwell event on Thursday 22 February will cover Boosting Productivity and Fuller Working Lives.
