Funding for sports activities

Submit your application to Sandwell Community Sports Grants by Monday 26 February for funding for sports activities in the borough.

Grants of up to £5K are available to schemes that:

Prioritising long-term sustainability

The programme is a collaboration between Sandwell Council and Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations (SCVO). It will give priority to projects that can demonstrate how their activities will be sustained in the long term.

This is the second round of the programme. In the first round, grants went to projects involving Special Olympics, football, netball, basketball, cricket and fitness training, as well as schemes to mentor and improve coaching and training.

Mental and physical health benefits

Mark Davis, chief executive officer of SCVO, said: “We know that being more active through sports and volunteering can help us to feel better about ourselves, learn new skills and meet new people, as well as bringing physical and mental health benefits.”

Councillor Charn Singh Padda, cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: “This is why are offering these grants to support those clubs to grow their membership, reach out to new groups and give everyone access to a sport that they can enjoy regardless of their background, age or ability.”

To apply for funding for sports activities, you will first need to have an initial conversation with someone from SCVO. Visit the website for more information, and to arrange a call.

Physical activity is just one way to promote positive mental health. Find out about other sources of help and support on our mental health resources page.
